Thinking ahead

"The 908 Taiwan Nation Movement, a local pro-independence group, announced yesterday that it will mobilize 3 million people to form a human chain around Taiwan on Feb. 28, 2008 to push for passage of a new "Taiwan Nation Constitution."

Wow. This is the first demonstration I've ever heard of that was planned two and a half years in advance.

What will you be doing on Feb. 28, 2008? You'd better figure it out fast, because time's a-wastin'.

Well, considering that during the last election the 2/28 Hands Across Taiwan rally was such a big success that it raised the probability of Chen's re-election from "No way in hell" to "Holy crap, this guy might actually pull it out," scheduling another Hands Across Taiwan rally right before the next presidential election is a no-brainer.

Sure. But as I recall, Hands Across Taiwan was put together in just a couple of weeks. I guess Hands Around Taiwan is seen as a bigger logistical challenge.

3 million! I'll be there, if I can hold hands with you, Feiren.

Michael, you can hold hands with Feiren any time you want. But Feiren, I must observe in a huffy tone, did not write this post.
